This month’s analog shut-off in Wilmington has the National Association of Broadcasters calling for increased awareness about the need to re-scan for digital channels post-transition.
At midnight on February 17, there will be some reshuffling of channels on the UHF band. Almost all channels in the St. Louis market will remain the same, but at least one major station has plans to move to a higher frequency. This means you will need to re-scan for channels using your converter box or digital TV after the transition takes place.
Most boxes have an automatic scan feature, but if you’re not getting all of the channels you did before, try this:
1. Visit www.antennaweb.org and click on “choose an antenna” and input your exact address.
2. After you submit your information, it will take you to a page where you can view available digital channels in your area. Look for the column that says “Frequency Assignment”.
3. Instead of entering the normal channel number into your remote, find the frequency assignment number for that channel and save it to your program list. For example, Channel 9’s frequency assignment is 39, so you’d enter “39″ and save it.
This process should help the digital tuner find the stations you are missing.
